12th Fail scored at the box-office and also won critical acclaim, it is unlikely that the audience would pay money to see footage of its making. For one, the footage is per se boring. All in all, Zero Se Restart, which is about the making of the hit 12th Fail, will fail the box-office test because it is boring, insipid and meaningless. Leave alone restart, it won’t even take a start!

Zero Se Restart is a documentary of the making of Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail. It is about the struggles Vidhu Vinod Chopra faced starting from numerous rejections and coming up with a masterpiece. Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail has shown that to make a film successful you don’t need big stars or fancy locations, but stories that touch the hearts of the viewers. I sincerely believe that Zero Se Restart is just not meant for the theatres.

ZERO SE RESTART begins on a wonderful note showcasing the touching climax scene of the film. This is followed by prep going on the film nine months before it went on floors. Director Jaskunwar Singh Kohli, also the narrator of the film, executes this part stylishly with the use of texts and hilarious dialogues. On the whole, ZERO SE RESTART is a well-intentioned venture that documents the challenges of making one of the most loved films in recent times. However, it has zero chance of succeeding in cinemas due to its documentary nature, negligible awareness and high ticket rates. The insane competition from PUSHPA 2 – THE RULE will further dent its prospects.

Zero Se Restart also feels like a love letter from Vidhu Vinod Chopra and his team to the filmmaker himself. It celebrates his vision, his unconventional methods, and even his willingness to get into scuffles to protect his unit. Yet, in the very next scene, we see hundreds of students gathered outside the hotel, hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor. After the film’s resounding success, it’s unlikely any filmmaker will make that mistake again. Overall, if you’re a fan of 12th Fail or have a passion for the art of filmmaking, you will likely enjoy Zero Se Restart.

This isn’t a film about acting, but about real, raw efforts. Vidhu Vinod Chopra emerges as the true star, showcasing his unwavering dedication to the craft. The film also features glimpses of the cast of ’12th Fail’, including Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, but the focus remains on the making process rather than their performances. Zero Se Restart’ is more than a documentary; it’s an inspiring experience that motivates and uplifts. For cinephiles and dreamers alike, this film serves as a reminder that nothing is impossible with grit and determination.
