Reema Kagti’s direction is sensitive. Her narration is so heartfelt that her passion and brilliance ooze out of every scene. But the fact remains that the film is class-appealing. Sachin-Jigar’s music is nice and is in synch with the mood of the film. On the whole, Superboys Of Malegaon has its heart in the right place. But the story of the underdogs does not have universal appeal. At best, it is meant for the elite audience. It will win a lot of critical acclaim.

Based on the real-life story of a group of boys in Malegaon who decided to pursue their dream of making a movie, Reema Kagti’s ‘Superboys of Malegaon’ is easily one of the finest films to be made about the magic of celluloid. Even though there is an overwhelming sense of helplessness at times, the film has its humour in the right place. If you have watched the 1988 classic Cinema Paradiso, then you will know that this love for movies is a subject that has its own charm. Superboys of Malegaon is a must-watch thanks to its performances and its zest for showcasing and celebrating the undying enthusiasm of the human spirit. If you can dream it, you can make it. Now that’s a message that’s definitely worth applauding.

Like Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, Superboys of Malegaon has shown yet again that you don’t really need stars to make a successful film. All you need is a story that touches your heart and brilliant craftsmen. It is indeed a delightful film which will make you laugh aloud and cry at the same time. The movie emphasises on resilience and the burning desire for filmmaking. It’s about a group of young men in Malegaon who are crazily in love with movies. Muskkaan Jaferi portrays Shabeena, Nasir’s (Adarsh Gourav) is a true pillar of support to her husband and the reason for his success. Riddhi Kumar plays Mallika, Nasir’s love interest, enriching the narrative and making each character an integral part of the story.

The writer is the boss, Farogh thunders when he figures out to his chagrin that Nasir isn’t interested in ever making good on the promise to work on original ideas. In Superboys of Malegaon, the writer is indeed the boss, but the film, spearheaded by director Kagti and principal cast members Adarsh Gourav, Shashank Arora, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Muskaan Jaferi, is an all-round delight—a spirited, heartwarming, and super (in a quiet sort of way) ode to the movies.

The premiere of Superman Of Malegaon is a great, lump-in-the-throat scene, with priceless expressions from Shashank Arora and Adarsh Gourav. The ensemble of new and known actors perform with such abandon that even the ridiculous scenes that they shoot are a delight to watch. In an ideal world, Nasir Shaikh would have been invited to make films in Mumbai, failing that, at least Khan and Kagti have given him his due.
